The camera has stopped, the editing shears are at rest, the sound has gone mute: we mourn the passing of a great filmmaker, Rolf Mandolesi, who died on 3 September 2021.
Born in Milan in 1933, he grew up there and then moved to Merano. A dental technician, he discovered film in the early 1960s and, like so many amateurs, took his first steps with family films on the occasion of the birth of his son.
His more than 60 films are characterized by precise camera work, fine editing, appropriate sound and deliberately no dialogue or commentary, the image alone must speak and tell the story. He has won thousands of awards worldwide. And never missed a UNICA, as a link between the Italian Film Federation FEDIC and UNICA.
Rolf remained true to his style: an open eye for the others, the complexity of life, and a grammar that sometimes had critical overtones, especially when it came to the bad(er) qualities of man.
His last personal appearance on the stage of film was in 2016 in Suceava, at UNICA and as host of the UNICA Committee in Merano, in November 2019.
We have lost a person who left his mark on international non-professional film. We have lost a sincere, loyal, correct, generous gentleman and friend. We are left with his films. And the traces he left in the hearts of those who knew him and were close to him remain.

Die Kamera steht still, die Schnittschere ruht, der Ton ist stumm geworden: wir trauern um einen großen Filmemacher, Rolf Mandolesi ist am 3. September 2021 verstorben.
Geboren in Mailand, Jahrgang 1933, dort aufgewachsen und dann nach Meran gezogen. Von Beruf Zahntechniker, entdeckt er in den frühen 60er Jahren den Film und macht, wie so viele Amateure, die ersten Schritte mit Familienfilme anlässlich der Geburt seines Sohnes.
Seine über 60 Filme zeichnen sich durch präzise Kameraarbeit, scharfen Schnitt, passendem Ton und bewusst keine Dialoge oder Kommentar, das Bild alleine muss sprechen und erzählen. Er hat tausende von Preise weltweit gewonnen. Und keine UNICA ausgelassen, als Bindeglied zwischen dem Italienischen Filmverband FEDIC und der UNICA.
Rolf blieb seinem Stil treu: ein offenes Auge für das Andere, das Komplexe, und eine Grammatik die mitunter auch kritischen Töne hatte, vor allem wenn es um die schlechte(ren) Eigenschaften des Menschen ging.
Sein letzter persönlicher Auftritt auf der Bühne des Filmes war 2016 in Suceava, bei der UNICA und als Gastgeber des UNICA Komitees in Meran, im November 2019.
Wir haben einen Menschen verloren, der den internationalen nicht professionellen Film geprägt hat. Wir haben einen aufrichtigen, loyalen, korrekten, großzügigen Gentleman und Freund verloren. Es bleiben uns seine Filme. Und es bleiben die Spuren die er in die Herzen jener geschrieben hat, die ihn kannten und Nahe standen.

La caméra c’est arrêté, les ciseaux de montage sont au repos, le son est devenu muet : nous pleurons la disparition d'un grand cinéaste, Rolf Mandolesi, décédé le 3 septembre 2021.
Né à Milan en 1933, il y a grandi, puis s'est installé à Merano. Prothésiste dentaire de métier, il découvre le cinéma au début des années 1960 et, comme tant d'amateurs, fait ses premiers pas avec des films familiaux à l'occasion de la naissance de son fils.
Ses plus de 60 films se caractérisent par un travail de caméra précis, un montage pointu, un son approprié et délibérément aucun dialogue ou commentaire, l'image seule devant parler et raconter l'histoire. Il a remporté des milliers de prix dans le monde entier. Et n'a jamais manqué une UNICA, en tant que lien entre la Fédération italienne du cinéma FEDIC et l'UNICA.
Rolf est resté fidèle à son style : un regard ouvert sur l'autre, le complexe, et une grammaire parfois critique, surtout lorsqu'il s'agit des mauvaises qualités de l'homme.
Sa dernière apparition personnelle sur la scène du cinéma remonte à 2016 à Suceava, à l'UNICA et en tant qu'hôte du Comité de l'UNICA à Merano, en novembre 2019.
Nous avons perdu une personne qui a laissé son empreinte sur le cinéma international non professionnel. Nous avons perdu un gentleman et un ami sincère, loyal, correct et généreux. Il nous reste ses films. Et les traces qu'il a laissées dans le cœur de ceux qui l'ont connu et qui l'ont côtoyé demeurent.
